For over a decade, Monica has been teaching piano students ranging in age from three years old to adult. Monica currently has a growing private studio in New York City. She is on the faculty of the Long Island Conservatory, SUNY, in Long Island, New York, and Music in Chappaqua in Chappaqua, New York. Monica served as a teaching fellow for the Juilliard School’s piano minor department for an unprecedented four year tenure. In addition, she was also a faculty member at the Tiger Mountain Academy in Issaquah, Washington, a private school for children grades K-12.

Monica’s primary goal is to make piano playing enjoyable and rewarding. Monica’s patient and encouraging approach has allowed her to cultivate unique student-teacher relationships with each student. For beginners, Monica aims to find the right balance between teaching the fundamentals of music theory and correct technique, while maintaining a fun and positive learning environment. For her more advanced students, Monica strives to provide her students with the facility to express themselves at the piano. This includes working with technique, sound production, and musical ideas.

Monica firmly believes that her active performing career and extensive competition experience work to inform and enhance her approach to teaching, offering the unique insights of a veteran of the concert stage to her students. Similarly, her work with her students inspires her to approach her own performing with constantly evolving ideas. She feels blessed to have the opportunity to pursue both passions.

Monica's seven foot Steinway traveled from Arizona to Brooklyn where it was crane-lifted through a top floor window of her brownstone apartment. She hired her good friend and carpenter Robert McIntyre to build a sound-insulation platform.
